----------------------------------------------------------------- SEMINAR OF THE LABORATORY FOR COMPUTER DESIGN OF MATERIALS Institute for Computational Sciences and Informatics CSI 898-Sec 001 (http://www.csi.gmu.edu/lcdm/seminar/schedule.html) ----------------------------------------------------------------- Structural Phase Stability and Electron-Phonon Coupling in Lithium Amy Liu Physics Department, Georgetown University, Washington D.C. Although solid Lithium is arguably one of the simplest metals, open questions remain about some of its electronic and structural properties. Its structural phase diagram, especially at low temperatures, appears to be complex, with several phases observed to coexist. Furthermore, given that several first-principles studies have suggested that the electron-phonon interaction in Li should be moderately large, the lack of an observed superconducting transition, at least down to the mK level, has been a long-standing theoretical puzzle.
