------------------------------------------------------------------------ COLLOQUIUM OF THE LABORATORY FOR COMPUTER DESIGN OF MATERIALS Institute for Computational Sciences and Informatics CSI 898-Sec 001 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Current Activities in the NIST Crystallographic Data Center Vicky Lynn Karen Crystallographic Data Center National Institute of Standards and Technology Gaithersburg, MD 20899 Crystallographic databases have traditionally been used as an aid to scientific research through bibliographic searching, the identification of unknown materials, and the analysis of individual crystal structures. Chemists and materials scientists have long used the Inorganic Crystal Structure Database and its collection of more than 40,000 inorganic compounds to support research advances. A new agreement between the Fachinformationszentrum (FIZ) Karlsruhe, the Max-Planck Society (MPG) and NIST focuses on two areas: the evaluation of current and new structural data, and PC- and Web-based products that take advantage of modern information technology. An overview of Data Center activities will be presented, including forthcoming products and scientific algorithms to assist in data standardization, evaluation, and retrieval. Monday , October 5 1998 4:30 pm Room 206, Science & Tech. I Refreshments will be served. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- (http://www.csi.gmu.edu/lcdm/seminar/schedule.html)
