-------------------------------------------------------------------- COLLOQUIUM OF THE LABORATORY FOR COMPUTER DESIGN OF MATERIALS School of Computational Sciences (CSI 898-Sec 001) -------------------------------------------------------------------- Pauli principle and the low-lying magnetic excitations in itinerant systems Samed Halilov Center for Computational Materials Science Naval Research Laborator, Washington, DC 20375 The adiabatic theory of low-lying magnetic excitations is developed on the basis of spin density functional theory (SDFT). The central assumption of multi-time scale allows to introduce the concept of adiabatic magnetic moments formed by the itinerant electrons and to construct effective adiabatic spin Hamiltonian suitable for generally non-Heisenberg systems. The strong Kohn anomalies in Fe are predicted. Remarkable dynamic renormalization of the RKKY interaction is motivated and shown within SDFT to significantly influence the magnon spectra of heavy rare-earth metals.
