-------------------------------------------------------------------- COLLOQUIUM OF THE COMPUTATIONAL MATERIALS SCIENCE CENTER College of Science (CDS Department CSI 898-Sec 001) -------------------------------------------------------------------- Thermoelectric Materials, Standards and Metrology Winnie Wong-Ng Functional Property Group, Ceramics Division National Institute of Standards and Technology, Gaithersburg, MD A challenge of the global economy in the new millennium is for both emerging and mature industries to provide inexpensive, efficient, compact and environmentally friendly cutting-edge technologies for energy conversion applications. In response to these needs, for the past few years, research activities at the Functional Properties Group of Ceramics Division of NIST have included standards and metrology of thermoelectric materials as part of its program. The development and distribution of standard reference materials (SRMïª) for instrument calibration and for inter-laboratory data comparison has been one of the NIST core scientific activities. In this talk, I will give an overview of the thermoelectric materials, followed by a discussion of our efforts on the SRM development of the low temperature Seebeck coefficient standard for bulk materials, of new metrology developments for combinatorial films, and of thermoelectric materials structural characterization. Monday, October 27, 2008 4:30 pm Room 301, Research I, Fairfax Campus Refreshments will be served at 4:15 PM. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Find the schedule at www.cmasc.gmu.edu/seminar/schedule.html --------------------------------------------------------------------
