------------------------------------------------------------------------ COLLOQUIUM OF THE LABORATORY FOR COMPUTER DESIGN OF MATERIALS Institute for Computational Sciences and Informatics CSI 898-Sec 001 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ LOOKING TOWARD THE 21ST CENTURY: OPPORTUNITIES IN FUNDAMENTAL MATERIALS SCIENCES AT THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY Alan L. Dragoo Division of Materials Sciences, Office of Basic Energy Sciences U.S. Department of Energy, Washington, DC The Department of Energy/Basic Energy Sciences/Division of Materials Sciences program supports a broad program of theoretical and experimental research on structure, properties, and phenomena to advance a fundamental understanding of materials relevant to the future energy needs of the United States. The Division also supports the operation of major national user facilities, including light (x-ray) sources, neutron sources, and electron-beam microcharacterization centers for the characterization of material structures and properties often at the atomic scale. Its research program is carried out at DOE National Laboratories and through grants, principally with university researchers. An introduction will given to the Department of Energy's National User Facilities and to the research program of the Division of Materials Sciences. The grant application process will be given be described. Monday , November 10 1997 4:30 pm Room 206, Science & Tech. I Refreshments will be served. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- (http://www.csi.gmu.edu/lcdm/seminar/schedule.html)
