-------------------------------------------------------------------- COLLOQUIUM OF THE LABORATORY FOR COMPUTER DESIGN OF MATERIALS School of Computational Sciences (CSI 898-Sec 001) -------------------------------------------------------------------- Magnetism and Dynamics in Clusters of Atoms Professor Louis Bloomfield Physics Department, University of Virginia, Charlottesville, VA Small aggregates of atoms often have properties that are intermediate between those of atoms and those of the bulk. But these clusters also have properties that are uniquely their own. Finite size and surface effects can lead to interesting behaviors in these small pieces of matter. This talk will discuss ongoing experimental work on the magnetism of transition metal clusters and on the picosecond dynamics of salt clusters near the finite-size equivalent of the melting transition. Monday , March 28, 2005 4:30 pm Room 206, Science & Tech. I, Fairfax Campus Refreshments will be served at 4:15 PM. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Find the schedule at http://www.scs.gmu.edu/lcdm/seminar/schedule.html --------------------------------------------------------------------
