---------------------------------------------------------------------- COLLOQUIUM OF THE COMPUTATIONAL MATERIALS SCIENCE CENTER College of Science (CDS Department CSI 898-Sec 001) --------------------------------------------------------------------- Analysis of Rotor Wake Aerodynamics During Maneuvering Flight Using a Free-Vortex Wake Methodology. Shreyas Ananthan Computational Materials Science Center, George Mason University and National Institute of Sctandards and Technology The flow field associated with a helicopter rotor is considerably complex even for steady state flight conditions. Existing computational techniques lack the fundamental capability to simulate the unsteady wake dynamics under maneuvering flight conditions. Accurate prediction of the wake dynamics under all practical flight conditions is crucial for designing better and efficient helicopters. A free-vortex wake methodology capable of predicting the wake dynamics under maneuvering flight conditions has been developed. The algorithm was designed to be computationally cost-efficient while capturing the essential flow physics seen during maneuvering flight. The numerical technique was comprehensively validated against existing experimental measurements. The code was then used to predict the aerodynamics and aeroacoustics of various standard military maneuvers. October 16, 4:30 pm Room 301, Research I, Fairfax Campus Refreshments will be served at 4:15 PM. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Find the schedule at http://www.cmasc.gmu.edu/seminar/schedule.html -------------------------------------------------------------------
