My professorship
is in the Computational and Data Science Department,
in the Department of Physics
and Astronomy , and in the Department of Chemistry and I am the director of the Computational Materials Science Center, all of them part of the
College of Science.
Among other activities,
I was a 1982-83 Fulbright Fellow at Stanford University during my first sabbatical and
visiting professor for the period 1989-1992 at Johns Hopkins University holding
a National Science Foundation visiting professorship. I joined Mason in 1992 and since then I have consolidated a group of
collaborators and students working in computational simulations in condensed
matter, quantum chemistry and nanomaterials.
Presently I am part of the Editorial Boards of the Journal of Computational and Theoretical Nanoscience,
Computing Letters and the ICCMSE new journals. I am a Fellow of the American Physical Society, and recently served as
member of the Executive Committee of its
Division of Computational Physics
(2001-2004) and as member of the
APS Committee on International Scientific Affairs (2002-2004).
My research interests include large scale simulations in condensed matter
physics and materials science, dynamical systems, computational statistical
mechanics, many-body theory, and applications of
quantum chemistry to nanoscience.
