Received the Bachelors of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Virginia in 1962. In 1967, he received the Master of Science degree and in 1971 the Ph.D. degree, both in electrical engineering, from the Pennsylvania State University. He has been with George Mason University since 1971 and in 1984 became the founding Chair of the newly created Electrical and Computer Engineering Department where he holds the rank of Professor. He served in the position of Chair until 1990. He received a Distinguished Faculty Award for Excellence in Teaching and Scholarship from GMU in 1987, and has received several performance awards from the Naval Research Laboratory where he has been a consultant. He has served as a member of the Council of Higher Education of the Virginia Advisory Committee on Graduate and Continuing Education in Northern Virginia. His major area of research is the generation of high power microwaves using relativistic electron beams and the application of microwaves in materials processing. He is currently Associate Dean for Graduate Study and Research.
